Oh wow, this was one of my favorites as a child, as well! I've never met anyone else who's heard of it, though. I've been meaning to dig it out of storage for quite some time now...
When my mother bought this book for me, I was the happiest boy in the world.

Oh, I loved that book! Ran across this blog post doing a google search for it. My sister knows the author and showed me a copy of it last year. I'd like to get a used copy off Amazon.
